A setlist app for cover bands on mixed phones

StageFloww, the setlist and stage-lyrics app, runs in the browser on Android and iPhone, so a cover band on mixed phones shares the same running order. When the leader moves to the next song, each member's screen follows. Sync needs internet on each phone, and there is no chord-chart PDF viewer.

Does it work when the band has both Android phones and iPhones?

Yes. StageFloww is a web app. It opens in the browser on Android phones, iPhones, tablets and laptops, and each player can add it to the home screen. There is no store app to install, so nobody is left out because of the phone they own. The keys player can read from a laptop while the singer reads from a phone.

Each person signs in with Google or with an email and password.

In the UK and Ireland the same kind of act is usually called a covers band or a function band. This page applies to both, in any country. The menus are in English.

How do you get the setlist to the band before rehearsal?

You build the running order in the setlist builder, with a key for each song, and then share it in whichever way suits the band:

  • Invite link. You choose View or Edit access. Give Edit to the person who helps you plan the set and View to the rest. Paste the link into whichever group chat the band uses.
  • WhatsApp. StageFloww writes a message with the setlist name, the date, the first few songs with their keys, and a link that opens the full set without signing in.
  • QR code. Show it on your screen at rehearsal and the others scan it.

How does a band member join?

  1. The leader shares the link. Open the setlist, choose Share, pick View or Edit access and send the link to the band.
  2. The member opens it. The link opens in the phone's browser and shows the setlist straight away, before any sign-in.
  3. The member taps Join the setlist. They sign in with Google or with an email and password. The account is free and members do not pay.
  4. The setlist appears in their account. A setlist that a leader shares never counts toward the member's own Free plan limit.
  5. At the gig, the member opens it in Live Mode. From then on their screen moves to the same song as the leader's.

Someone who is not in the band, such as a friend you sent the link to, can copy the setlist into their own account instead of joining.

What does band sync do during the set?

When the leader moves to the next song, each signed-in member's screen moves to that song. If the leader starts or pauses auto-scroll, followers' auto-scroll starts or pauses too. It does not sync audio, and it does not match how far down the lyrics each person has scrolled.

Sync needs internet on each device. In a basement venue with no signal, the screens stop following and each player moves on by hand. Lyrics a player has already opened stay on that device. Before the gig, open each song in the setlist once on the device you will use, while you are online. The band sync page explains what each member needs.

What happens when a request lands mid-set?

You show a QR code on a table tent or a screen. Guests enter a name and a phone number. They need no app and no account. The request appears on the leader's screen during the gig. The leader accepts it, declines it or adds the song to tonight's set, and the guest sees that status on their phone. Once the song is in the running order and the leader advances to it, the band's screens follow as usual.

Song requests are free in every country. Setup is covered under song requests by QR code.

Is it any use for a tribute act?

It can be. A tribute set changes less than a pub covers set, so the useful parts are different: save the show as a template, reuse it for each venue, and keep a performance key on each song for your singer. StageFloww holds your own running order. It has no record of what the original artist played on tour.

If your set never changes and the whole band knows it by heart, a printed list does the job. The page on a setlist app versus a PDF in the WhatsApp group sets out where each one is enough.

What does it cost a band?

The band leader's account is the one that pays, if anyone pays. Members join free. The Free plan gives the leader 1 active setlist of up to 40 songs, with Live Mode and band sync included. If your night has more songs than that, or you keep separate setlists for different venues, you need Pro: ₹499 a month or ₹3,999 a year. That is the price in India. Outside India, Pro is charged by card in your region's currency: US$79.99 a year in the United States, £64.99 in the UK, €79.99 in euro countries and A$119.99 in Australia. Other countries pay in US dollars, between US$14.99 and US$79.99 a year depending on the country. Outside India it is not the cheapest setlist app. The details are under Free and Pro pricing. To check how many songs a night needs before you build it, use the set length calculator.

Good fit

  • A band on a mix of Android phones and iPhones
  • A set that changes from gig to gig or during the gig
  • Singers who read lyrics from a screen
  • Bands that take requests from the room

Not the right tool

  • Bands that read PDF chord charts or sheet music
  • Bands that trigger backing tracks or MIDI from the setlist
  • Venues with no signal, if you depend on the screens following the leader
  • Bands that need a shared calendar or availability polls

Questions and answers

Which devices does StageFloww work on?

Android phones, iPhones, tablets and laptops, in the browser. Members of the same band can be on different kinds of device. You sign in on each device with the same account. You can add StageFloww to the home screen, and there is nothing to install.

Do band members have to pay?

No. The band leader pays for Pro, or stays on the Free plan, and members join the leader's setlist free. Members get Live Mode and band sync, and a shared setlist does not count toward a member's own Free limit. Each member needs a free account to join.

Does band sync need internet?

Yes. Band sync needs an internet connection on the leader's device and on each member's, over venue Wi-Fi or mobile data. A member whose phone has no signal will not see the leader's song changes, so agree a fallback, such as calling the next song aloud, for rooms with poor coverage.

Can a stand-in player see the setlist for a single gig?

Yes. Send the stand-in the invite link with View access. They see the running order before signing in, then join with a free account and get Live Mode and sync like the rest of the band. If they want the same order for a gig of their own later, they can copy the setlist into their own account.
