Convert lyrics you paste into English letters

This free tool from StageFloww, the setlist and stage-lyrics app, respells lyrics you paste in English letters so you can sing them without reading the script. It converts text you already have and does not find or supply song lyrics. It is phonetic transliteration, not translation of meaning.

How do I convert lyrics to English letters?

Paste the lyrics into the box. Leave the script on auto-detect or pick it yourself, then copy the result. Hindi comes out as what most people call Hinglish, Tamil as Tanglish and Malayalam as Manglish: the same words, typed in English letters the way singers type them to each other.

This tool converts lyrics you paste. It does not find lyrics for you. Paste text you have the right to use; nothing you paste leaves your browser.

In English letters

Example: six Devanagari letters: क ख ग घ च ज
Ka kha ga gha cha ja

    Is this transliteration or translation?

It is transliteration. Each word keeps its sound and is respelled in English letters, so a singer who cannot read the script can still sing the line. It does not tell you what the line means, and nothing here translates meaning.

    What comes out:

    • Plain English letters with no accent marks, dots or macrons. The spelling follows how singers write lyrics in chat messages, not a textbook romanisation scheme.
    • The first letter of each line as a capital, for scripts that have no capitals of their own.
    • Your line breaks, punctuation, English words and section tags such as [Chorus], left exactly as you typed them.

What does not come out is a line the rules cannot read. That line is returned unchanged and listed under the result with the note "this line needs the AI option in the app".

    Which scripts can it convert?

The converter handles 14 scripts by fixed rules. The conversion is instant and uses no AI, so the same input always gives the same output.

Rows marked "by AI in the app" are not part of this tool. Inside the app those scripts go through an AI step, which needs a connection and can fail.

How does each script come out in English letters?

Each section below has the engine's own character table for a single script: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. The tables are produced by running the tool's rules over each letter, so a table and the tool cannot disagree.

A table shows a letter on its own. Inside a word the same letter can come out differently, because the rules look at the letters on either side of it. Convert a full line to see the real result.

    Hindi

Hindi is written in Devanagari, the script also used for Marathi. Add #hindi to this page's address to open the tool with Devanagari selected.

How do I use the result on stage?

The tool stops at the text: it does not save it, scroll it or keep a song list. Copy the result into whatever you sing from.

In StageFloww the same rules sit behind a per-song switch, so you can flip a song between its original script and English letters while it is on screen. The transliteration feature page lists the scripts and the known failure cases, and lyrics on stage covers the full-screen view and auto-scroll. For how this fits a night with several languages in it, see the page for singers working in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam or the one for Bollywood bands.

    Questions and answers

Is English-letter lyrics the same as translation?

No. English-letter lyrics are transliteration: the same words, respelled in Latin letters so you can pronounce them without reading the original script. It does not translate the meaning, so a Hindi line stays Hindi, written in English letters.

Which scripts can be shown in English letters?

14 scripts are converted by fixed rules, instantly and without AI: Devanagari (Hindi, Marathi), Gurmukhi (Punjabi), Gujarati, Bengali, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Sinhala, Hangul (Korean), Japanese kana, Cyrillic (Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian) and Greek. Arabic script including Urdu, Chinese, Thai, Hebrew and Japanese lines with kanji go through AI in the app and can fail. This is transliteration of sound, not meaning.

Does the converter find the lyrics of a song for me?

No. It has no song search and no lyrics in it. You paste text you already have and have the right to use, and it respells that text in English letters. If you type a song title into the box, you get the title back in English letters and nothing more.

Is the text I paste sent to a server?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and makes no network request, so nothing you paste leaves your device. The text is not stored, not logged and not put in the page address. The page records that the tool was used, for visitor counts, and never what was pasted.

Why did some lines come back unchanged?

The rules cannot read those lines. This happens with Arabic script, including Urdu, with Chinese, Thai and Hebrew, and with Japanese lines that contain kanji, because a kanji has no fixed reading without a dictionary. The tool returns such lines as they were and lists them under the result. Text that is already in English letters also passes through untouched.
